Students for Historic Preservation

About SHiP
Students for Historic Preservation educates architecture students about historic buildings, how they were constructed, and how we can maintain them. The club hosts many events throughout the year to increase awareness of historic preservation and to draw attention to prominent historical buildings around the state.
Firm Tours
SHiP organizes firm tours that connects students with firms around the area that specialize in historic preservation work, as well as hosts Lunch & Learns led by professionals in the industry. These events are highly educational and a great way for students interested in the topic to speak to connect with, and speak to, experienced architects and historians.

Historic Site Visits
SHiP also hosts many site visits throughout the year, leading students to historic architectural locations around the area. Going to such events has helped me develop a greater understanding of the history of Louisiana and the American South, as well as modern solutions on how architects record and maintain such old buildings.
Other Events
While mainly centered around historic preservation, the club also hosts many other events around campus, such as coffee carts, bake sales, and sketching events. These help raise awareness for the club amongst the student population, and provide architecture students a time to relax and hang out with friends before and after class.
